Dormant Cameras
On an annual basis, in conjunction with local roads authorities, speed and collision data will be monitored at all camera sites.
Based on the last three years performance, if a site is no longer assessed as a priority for enforcement it will be made dormant (i.e. no enforcement will take place although signage and where appropriate, camera infrastructure will remain in-situ). Dormant fixed and red-light cameras will have bag placed over them following the dormancy decision.
Sites become dormant if the data no longer justifies their continued operation, meaning they have fulfilled their safety objectives, or because engineering improvements or other changes have made them unnecessary.
A site may remain dormant for a period of three years, with annual reviews, after which a decision must be taken on whether it will be abandoned or re-activated. If after three years the site does not meet the selection requirements and the decision has been made to abandon a site, signing and equipment should be removed.
A list of dormant sites is available below.
