Disappointing seasonal deployment update - A92 Salmondsmuir, Carnoustie
The North Safety Camera commenced enforcement on the A92 at Salmondsmuir, Carnoustie at the beginning of April under the short-term deployment scheme. This scheme enables enforcement at locations that would not normally meet criteria to become a permanent location but provide the flexibility to enforce where we believe there will be a change in traffic behaviour over the upcoming months. The location was one of many selected with the aim of improving driver behaviour by encouraging motorists to slow down and drive within the speed limits.
The location has been attended by the mobile safety camera van on a number of occasions, and the results have been disappointing. Since April, enforcement at this location has recorded 81 offences with speeds of 99mph and 95mph detected by cars travelling in excess of the 70mph speed limit. Currently 61 Cars and 20 Vans have been detected at this location.
Eric Dunion Unit Manager of the Police Scotland’s North Safety Camera Unit says: “It is disappointing that we continue to detect motorists travelling in excess of the speed limit at this location – on one day the enforcement team detected 23 vehicles which is unacceptable. Whilst we regularly receive complaints of speeding motorists and requests for action in this instance the majority of vehicles detected are registered to locals.
As a number of different types of vehicles have been detected we would like to remind motorists to check the speed limit of the vehicle that they are driving. As a dual carriageway the speed limit in place is 70mph for cars, and 60mph for Vans.”
Chief Inspector Richard Ross, Road Policing North Area Commander says: “Police Scotland, and our Safety Camera Units, are committed to working with our partners in order to influence driver and road user behaviour and reduce casualties. It is disappointing to see these results and that motorists continue to ignore the speed limits in place. Along with the Safety Camera Unit, Road Policing will continue to enforce along the A92 to encourage speed limit compliance.”
