East Safety Camera Unit announces seasonal short term deployments

09/04/26

Over the summer months the East Safety Camera Unit will be operating additional short term deployments of the mobile safety camera van in response to speeding concerns and expected increases in tourist and motorcycle traffic.

Police Scotland Safety Cameras aim is to reduce the number of people injured on our roads through targeted camera enforcement and improving driver and rider behaviour. Short term deployments allow the East Safety Camera Unit to respond to emerging issues and seasonal traffic patterns.

Michael Grant, East Safety Camera Unit Manager said “The short term deployment scheme allows the safety camera unit to enforce for seasonal periods where concerns have been raised regarding the speed of vehicles or there are expected increases in traffic. It is hoped that this short term deployment will be a reminder that the speed limit is in place to keep all road users safe.”

Chief Inspector Greg Burns, Road Policing East Area Commander said “With the improved weather conditions, it can be tempting for motorists to exceed the speed limit, and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable if a collision occurs. I want every road user to be safe on our roads this summer and these short term deployments should encourage all road users to travel at an appropriate speed and be aware of each other.”

Enforcement will commence from 9 April 2026 and locations are listed below:

A68 Camptown, 6 miles south of Jedburgh

A708 at St Mary’s Loch
