Mobile enforcement to commence on the A941 at Longmorn on 25th November.
Speed enforcement is to commence on the A941 at Longmorn, near Elgin on Monday 25th November.
Mobile enforcement will be carried out by Police Scotland’s North Safety Camera Unit, using laser technology located in the rear of a highly visible enforcement vehicle.
Safety cameras are deployed where there is a history of injury collisions and an identified issue with speed. Every year the Safety Camera Unit undertakes site selection along with roads authorities to identify a list of new sites that meet the collision and speed profile criteria, as well as determining the most appropriate type of camera for enforcement.
The A941 at Longmorn was highlighted as an area of concern after three serious and one fatal collision occurred during the baseline data period. A recent speed survey also highlighted excessive vehicle speeds with 25.8% of vehicles travelling in excess of the speed limit.
The site location is a single carriageway and subject to national speed limits, the maximum limit for cars and motorbikes is 60mph, light goods vehicles and cars towing are restricted to 50mph and heavy goods vehicles have the limit of 40mph.
Eric Dunion Manager, Police Scotland Safety Camera Unit says: “The A941 is sadly the scene of many collisions with many being contributed to inappropriate speed for the road conditions. We are aware that this is a popular route with motorcyclists and visitors to the area, who are maybe unfamiliar with the local road network, exploring the area. We will be deploying our mobile camera vans at Longmorn on a regular basis to encourage motorists to improve their driver behaviour and adhere to the speed limits that are in place for the safety of all road users.”
Elaine Penny, Moray Council says: “We are pleased to be working with the Safety Camera Unit on sites where accidents have been happening and where speed is a factor. Speeding and driver behaviour has been shown to be a factor in the collisions around Longmorn and we hope that the presence of enforcement in the area will encourage drivers to improve their driving habits.”
