New flexible deployment location – B847 Calvine, Perthshire.
A new flexible deployment location has been identified within the 30mph limit on the B847 at Calvine, Perthshire.
Following concerns from residents and at the request of Perth & Kinross Council, Police Scotland’s North Safety Camera Unit will commence enforcement at Calvine on the B847 with a mobile safety camera van from the 1st June in a bid to reduce vehicle speeds and make the route safer for all road users. A recent speed survey recorded that 59.6% of motorists were travelling in excess of the 30mph speed limit.
Eric Dunion, Manager of the North Safety Camera Unit, said: "The flexible deployment scheme allows us to enforce at locations of concern for an initial 3-month period with the aim of improving driver behaviour by encouraging motorists to slow down and drive within the speed limit.
We know that all road users including cyclists and pedestrians regularly use this road and residents have rightly raised their concerns about the level of speeding vehicles.”
A spokesperson from Perth & Kinross Council Safer Communities said, “Officials from PKC Safer Communities have worked in partnership with Bailie Michael Williamson and residents of Calvine to address the reports of speeding and unsafe driving. Our partners from the Safety Camera Unit will be in attendance in the area to carry out enforcement on drivers found to be in excess of the posted speed limits. Bailie Michael Williamson said, “Residents have a right to feel safe in their communities and we will work closely with the Safety Camera Unit to ensure this is the case and that those found breaking the law will be held accountable”.
Chief Inspector Greg Burns, Local Area Commander for Perth & Kinross said: “Road safety and casualty reduction is a priority for Police Scotland. Part of our activity towards this priority involves speed enforcement on all types of roads. In addition, we work closely with key stakeholders to ensure that a range of other measures are in place to keep people safe on the road network including 30mph limits.
As such I am pleased to announce that, in response to concerns raised by the community, our Safety Camera Unit will be implementing a flexible deployment strategy. This approach is a key component of our partnership efforts to enhance road safety within Perth & Kinross.
