Disappointing enforcement figures from the A82 at Carrs Corner, Fort William

Following recent enforcement on the A82 Carrs Corner at Fort William the North Safety Camera Unit is disappointed with the significant number of motorists that continue to travel well in excess of the 30mph speed limit.

Over a two hour period 33 offences were detected, over 50% of which were travelling over 45mph (50% more than the limit) with the highest recorded speed being 51mph.

On another visit one motorist was detected travelling at over double the speed limit, 63mph in the 30mph limit.

Eric Dunion, Manager North Safety Camera Unit says “We have enforced at this location in Fort William for a number of years and feel the need to highlight the level of speeds being detected recently.

Although local residents shouldn’t be surprised that the van is at the location we are once again expecting an increase in tourists this year who will be unfamiliar with the road network. By attending the location our aim is to modify driver behaviour and increase speed limit compliance. The 30mph speed limit is in place for the safety of all road users.”
