New enforcement location on the A96 near Bainshole.

15/04/2021

The A96 near Bainshole will see mobile safety camera resources deployed from 16/04/2021 as part of a £675,000 investment to deliver new enforcement sites across Scotland.

Safety cameras aim to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured by encouraging improved driver behaviour and speed limit compliance.

This stretch of the A96, close to Huntly, has seen fifteen recorded injury collisions, eight of which were serious over the most recently assessed five year period.

In addition, recent speed surveys have shown that over 30% of vehicles are exceeding the speed limit with 74% of these being goods vehicles.

Eric Dunion Unit Manager of the North Safety Camera Unit says: “The A96 is sadly the scene of many collisions with many being contributed to inappropriate speed for the road conditions. The new location on the A96 at Bainshole has been identified with a number of recorded injury collisions and a significant number of speeding vehicles. Safety cameras are deployed where they have the greatest potential to reduce injury collisions. By deploying our mobile cameras at Bainshole on a regular basis we aim to encourage motorists to improve their driver behaviour and adhere to the speed limits in place. Speed limits are in place for the safety of all road users.”
