North East Cameras to become dormant

A recent review of speed related collisions and vehicle speeds at safety camera sites across the North has resulted in six fixed cameras being made dormant.

Under the guidance from Transport Scotland and the Safety Camera Programme Handbook all Scottish Safety Camera locations are reviewed on an annual basis.  The recent 2022 review revealed that six fixed cameras no longer met the criteria for fixed speed enforcement.

The decision has therefore been made by Police Scotland’s North Safety Camera Unit to mark the cameras as 'not in use' and bag them. The vehicles speeds at these locations will continue to be monitored and should there be a change in driver behaviour the decision will be reviewed before removing them permanently.

The fixed cameras affected are;

A92 Dundee to Aberdeen Road near South Damhead, Bridge of Dee, Aberdeen.

A90 Peterhead to Fraserburgh road at Lunderton Cottage, St Fergus, Aberdeenshire.

A96 Auchmill Road, Bucksburn near Auchmill Terrace, Aberdeen

A96 Auchmill Road, Bucksburn near Oldmeldrum Road, Aberdeen.

A96 Great Northern Road near junction with Queen Street, Aberdeen.

A96 Great Northern Road opposite number 726, Aberdeen.

Eric Dunion, Police Scotland’s North Safety Camera Unit Manager says “Every year we review all our enforcement locations with our roads authority partners and this year’s review highlighted that these fixed cameras no longer met the speed and collision criteria required to continue with enforcement.  I would like to think that this is as a result of motorists modifying their speed and travelling within the published speed limits at these locations. Please be aware that should the speeds increase we will reinstate these fixed cameras. I would like to urge the public to continue to support us through speed limit compliance and making the North East Roads safer for all road users.”
