North Safety Camera Unit announce summer short term deployments

Safety Cameras Scotland have launched their summer staycation campaign to influence driver behaviour and encourage everyone to “stay within the speed limits this staycation”, summer driving hazards such as the presence of more vulnerable road users will be highlighted, while also emphasising the penalties of driving above the speed limit, in a social media and direct marketing campaign.

In conjunction with their campaign, due to staycations in North Scotland being in demand this summer the North Safety Camera Unit today announces locations that will be enforced during the summer months under the short term deployment scheme.

Eric Dunion Unit Manager of the North Safety Camera Unit says: “We have been working closely with our Local Authority and Police Scotland colleagues to identify locations where we anticipate an increase in traffic due to the increased number of visitors to Scotland this summer. These locations would not normally meet the criteria to become a permanent location but the short term deployment scheme gives us the flexibility to be at locations where we believe there will be a change in traffic behaviour. We will be enforcing at the locations for a maximum of a month and aim to encourage motorists to improve their driver behaviour and adhere to the speed limits in place. Speed limits are in place for the safety of all road users.”

Chief Inspector Neil Lumsden of Roads Policing North says: “With the expected increase in travel over the summer months I am delighted that the North Safety camera Unit is taking the strategic approach of implementing new short term deployment locations.  Road Policing work closely with the Safety Camera Unit to make our roads safer for all road users.”
