Police Scotland Safety Cameras helps to keep our roads safe by enforcing where there have been injury collisions due to speeding and our camera enforcement officers play a vital role. As stated in previous Police Scotland campaigns — abuse, assault, violence and injury are not part of the job.

Aggressive, reckless, or threatening behaviour towards Police Scotland officers and staff is an offence and may result in your arrest. In a recent case, after an object was thrown from a moving vehicle at a mobile camera van on the A68, Cranston, Midlothian; the person responsible was quickly traced by road policing colleagues and arrested and charged with culpable and reckless conduct.

Police Scotland Chief Inspector of Road Policing, Mark Patterson has underlined his commitment to tackling behaviour which puts staff within Police Scotland Safety Cameras at risk:

“Our mobile camera enforcement officers have the right to do their job safely without fear of abuse or injury and reckless or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated. Such behaviour can not only cause physical harm to police staff, but also to members of the public travelling on our roads. Offenders will face arrest and prosecution and I urge both motorists and passengers to consider their behaviour and the possible consequences.

“I request the support and co-operation of the public to ensure safer roads and working environments for police staff.”
