Reduction in speeds following flexible deployment on B9077 Leggart Terrace, Aberdeen

16/12/2024

The three-month flexible deployment ran from the 1st August 2024 and the results of the subsequent speed survey are now available.

Following concerns from residents and at the request of Aberdeen City Council, Police Scotland Safety Cameras enforced with a mobile safety camera van in a bid to reduce vehicle speeds and make the route safer for all road users.

Over the twelve weeks of enforcement, 25 number of visits were made to Leggart Terrace where 61 offences were recorded with the highest speed recorded being 64mph.

Eric Dunion, Safety Camera Unit Manager, said:  "Under the flexible deployment scheme a speed survey is required at the end of the three months of deployment to assess the success and appropriateness of enforcement.

At Leggart Terrace the results of the speed survey show a reduction of 2mph in speed travelled consistently across the week in which the survey was conducted.  This is a positive move in the right direction, we will now work with our partners at Aberdeen City Council to decide on the next stage of speed enforcement at Leggart Terrace.”

Councillor Miranda Radley, convener of Aberdeen City Council’s Communities, Housing and Public Protection Committee, said: “The reduction in speeds noted after the enforcement period was welcome and we hope that these results will be lasting.”
