Safety Cameras Scotland stress the dangers of speeding

Safety Cameras Scotland is reminding drivers of the dangers of speeding with their new bus back advert and digital radio campaign which will run throughout the West of Scotland over the coming weeks.

Speeding is one of the major causes of road traffic collisions. By travelling at inappropriate speeds – exceeding the speed limit or driving too fast for the conditions – you are more likely to be involved in a collision. The faster a vehicle is travelling at the time of impact, the more severe the injuries for everyone involved.

Many drivers underestimate the risks associated with speeding and are therefore more likely to become involved in dangerous driving behaviours.

Safety Cameras Scotland aims to reduce the number of people injured on Scotland’s roads as a result of speeding and running red lights. Through the use of targeted camera enforcement we strive to improve driver behaviour.

Safety cameras are there to enforce the speed limit at locations where road users have been injured as a result of speeding. The minimum penalty for speeding or running a red light is £100 and 3 penalty points. However this could be avoided by following some simple steps.

• Pay attention to the speed limit signs – the legal maximum for the road.
• Know the correct limits for your vehicle.
• Always drive at an appropriate speed for the conditions.
• And always expect the unexpected – never drive faster than you can react.
