Speed survey shows reduced speed on Craigton Road, Aberdeen

A three-month flexible deployment scheme on Craigton Road, Aberdeen, by Police Scotland Safety Cameras, has met its aim, of encouraging motorists to slow down and drive within the speed limit.

Earlier this year speeding concerns were raised by residents and Local MP Steven Flynn and a speed survey confirmed that 36.97% of motorists were travelling in excess of the 30mph speed limit.  This figure has now dropped to 7.66%.

During the three months, 61 hours of mobile enforcement were carried out.  In addition to the enforcement, local residents were also supplied with wheelie bin stickers which highlight the 30mph limit to passing motorists.

Eric Dunion, North Safety Camera Unit Manager, said:  "The recent speed survey results on Craigton Road show how effective flexible mobile enforcement and speed limit education can be in improving driver behaviour.  We would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that the speed limits are in place for the safety of all road users”.
